Hello, friends! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. It’s a new year and a new month, and that means new monthly clubs from Spellbinders. Once again this year, I will be showcasing the Large Die of the Month and the Small Die of the Month. These are my favorite clubs to play with.
As you already know, I love Spellbinders clubs. One of my favorite aspects of the their clubs is that you can cancel at any time. If you don’t like the club kit next month, just cancel it! The subscription window for new members ends on the 27th of the month, assuming that the club kit(s) has not already sold out.
EARLY ACCESS!
Are you already a club member or thinking of joining one of the clubs? One of the great benefits to being a club member is that you have early access to new products before they become available to the general public! There is a BIG, amazing release this month. You may have heard of it – Winnie the Pooh! If you’re a club member and want any of it, you can place your order now. Just CLICK HERE to see all of the goodies being released this month. There are, of course, many other amazing collections being released.
If you’re a fan of all (or even most) of the clubs, you might be interested in the Deluxe Caboodle Value Club. This club is offered at an exceptional value and includes all ten clubs PLUS a bonus item. For January, the bonus item is the “Take Flight Layered Stencil.”
Let’s move on to my cards today! I have a new video sharing how I made these. You can CLICK HERE to view on YouTube or watch it below.
NOTE: all supplies are linked to multiple sources in the thumbnails at the end of this blog post.
The January Large Die of the Month is called “Botanical Atrium.” I did not create the actual atrium for my card. Instead, I turned things upside down – literally. I used the outline die for the atrium and flipped it upside down to create a banner shape for my card. You’ll see in the video how I created that pink border around the banner. I kept things pretty simple on this card, but one thing I did do was visit some colors that I don’t typically use. I almost never use rose gold, but I used satin rose gold foil on this card for the sentiment. And I used rose gold glitter card stock for my other card!
My next card features the Small Die of the Month, called “Soaring Dragonfly.” For this card, I again chose a color palette that I don’t normally use. I think it looks so elegant and beautiful! I used some patterned paper for my background (of course), but I inked up the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink, which really transformed the look of this paper. As I mentioned above, I used rose gold glitter card stock on this card – you can see it on the detail of the wings. I used some beautiful tissue paper from Your Paper Insider for the solid part of the wings.
While the wings are beautiful, the star of this card is the body of the dragonfly. It is more of an embellishment than a die cut. I created it using several different embossing powders. Be sure to watch the video to see how I made it!
Of course I had to make a second card with the dragonfly using brighter colors! I also wanted to use the second die that creates different wing detail. I love how you can get two different looks for the dragonfly in this die set. I hot foiled the sentiment with black opaque foil, using a press plate. I did the same on the first card above (with the satin rose foil). Press plates foil so perfectly!
I hope these cards bring a smile to your face today. Leave me a comment and let me know which card is your favorite! As always, I appreciate you visiting my blog.
Wishing you all a crafty day,
Allison
