Hello, friends and happy weekend! I am back today sharing several cards I have made with embossing folders. I love using folders but haven’t really been using them lately, so this was a nice reminder of what a great tool they are for making impactful card designs. I am featuring embossing folders from both Simon Says Stamp and Spellbinders today. Simon has a brand new release called Rain or Shine. Spellbinders has a bunch of new March collections, but also:

BIG SALES!

Spellbinders is having a sale right now where you save $25 off a purchase of $125 or more. This is one of my favorite sales that they have because it’s not limited to certain products. No code is needed. Also, because you would be spending at least $100 ($125 minus the $25 savings), you will get free shipping! Woohoo!

Hero Arts Warehouse Sale: As you may know, Spellbinders now owns Hero Arts. Hero Arts is having a huge warehouse sale with deals starting at $1!

For my projects today, I used the following embossing folders:

I do have a new video showing my projects today. You can CLICK HERE to watch on YouTube, or you can view below.

NOTE: all supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this blog post.

My first project features the Soaring Swallows embossing folder from the new Simon Says Stamp Rain or Shine Release  I recreated a card that I had made for the release so that I could show you how I made it in today’s video. I did use inks to color my embossed panel today, but you could easily use markers. When using inks to color small embossed areas like this, I find it necessary to use small detail brushes. My favorite brush by far for things like this is the Shader Brush 2+ from Waffle Flower. And speaking of Waffle Flower, their huge Spring Sale is still going on! It ends on March 25th. The Shader 2+ is included in the sale. If you haven’t tried any of the Shader plus brushes, the Shader Brush PLUS Sampler set is also included in the sale.

I do mention in the video how there are matching dies (sold separately or as a combo) that would obviously make coloring the birds a bit easier. I don’t have the dies, but if you’re a fan of added dimension on your cards, popping up the die cuts would add that little “extra” to the design. The sentiments that I chose for this card are from the Reverse Well Wishes Sentiment Strips

I used the following Distress Inks to color the embossed panel:

  • Spun Sugar
  • Kitsch Flamingo
  • Squeezed Lemonade
  • Mustard Seed
  • Twisted Citron
  • Mowed Lawn
  • Antique Linen

This is the original card that I made. You can CLICK HERE to get to that original blog post for details on the colors and sentiments that I used. You can also see the other cards that I have made with the new Rain or Shine Release.

This next card features the new Scribbled Letter Embossing Folder from Spellbinders. This is not a 3D embossing folder, so the raised edges are not as pronounced. I think if it had been more pronounced, it would have taken away from the simple beauty of this scripty background. This is such a great folder for so many card designs, but I went floral for today. The flowers on this card are from the March 2025 Large Die of the Month from Spellbinders. There are a lot more elements in this club kit, but I chose to use just the floral pieces. You’ll see in my video how I swiped an ink cube across the embossed panel just to lightly highlight that script. The sentiment is from a new BetterPress Plate and die set called Holding Your Heart Sentiments. I did foil this sentiment with some Pewter hot foil from Spellbinders, and then I lightly inked up the edges of the sentiment strip to make it stand out from the background.

This next card features the same  Scribbled Letter Embossing Folder, but this time I embossed a piece of pearl metallic paper. I then rubbed a sanding block across the embossed edges to highlight that script. Because of the shimmer in this paper, it is easier to see the effect of the sanding technique in the lower left corner of the card. To finish this card, I added the fun Makeup Bag from the Gorgeous You Collection. You can CLICK HERE to see the video where I had started this makeup bag with the paper and ephemera from the Simple Vintage Flower Shoppe Collection

This last card features products from my favorite Little Smiles Collection from Spellbinders. In my original video introducing this collection, I used the Falling Stars BetterPress Plate for one of my cards. I showed in the video how there was a complementary embossing folder called Wishing Stars, but I didn’t use the folder. Both the plate and embossing folder can be used separately, but this new card shows what it looks like when you use the two in combination. I think it’s such a fun product combo! Because the Falling Stars is a press plate, you could foil the stars with a shimmery foil for a fun design. I chose to keep my panel tone on tone and inked my dark pink panel with “Princess” ink from Simon Says Stamp. I have found that the Pawsitively Saturated Inks, including the Rainbow Splash line, from Simon give really good coverage on press plates.

The hippo on the card is from the Swinging Among the Stars die set. This is the same set that I used for my fun Z-fold card in that original video. The sentiment is from the Little Smiles Sentiments, which is a press plate and matching die. I stamped it with the black ink that comes with the BetterPress system. I did use the matching die, and then I fussy cut the two words apart so that I could fit them on my design.

That is it for my projects! I hope they bring a smile to your face today. As always, I appreciate you visiting my blog.

Wishing you all a crafty day,

Allison
