Tunnel Box Card With a Fun Surprise

Hello, friends! I hope you are all doing well and enjoying your summer. Today, I am sharing a really fun tunnel card that I made a couple weeks ago during the height of my obsession with tunnel cards. I wanted to try something different, and the Tunnel Scapes Collection from Spellbinders once again served as my inspiration. My goal was to create the feel of a snow globe that you would find at an aquarium gift shop, so of course I had to figure out how to incorporate a shaker into a tunnel card!

As I mentioned above, my card features the Tunnel Scapes Collection, which was designed by Vicky Papaioannou. I used the Underwater Tunnel Die Set, the Underwater Marine Life set, and the Typewriter Adventure Sentiments. I also used one of the dies from the Arch Labels and Tag die set to create the opening on the front of the card.

As with my other tunnel cards that I made a few weeks ago, this card is 4.25″ x 6″. When the card flattens down, it measures 5″ x 6″ and fits into a 5×7 envelope. I really like this size for two reasons. One, I don’t have to worry about finding (or making) a larger envelope to fit the card. And two, I can use a regular letter size piece of card stock to create the base of the tunnel card. That base piece measures 10.5″ x 6″. If I made the front of the card wider, I would probably have to use a 12×12 piece of paper for the base, and I don’t have a lot of scrapbook sized paper in my stash.

Since this was my first attempt at making a “shaker tunnel,” there are definitely things that I learned and will change for the next time. You’ll have to watch the video to understand those things, as they mainly have to do with how I built the shaker pouch itself. Despite the fact that there are a few things I would do differently, I was definitely pleased with how it turned out. It does exactly what I envisioned!

For the “snow” in my snow globe inspired card, I used Distress Rock Candy Glitter.
