Video

For today’s cards, I used a really fun and new-to-me technique for using stencils with shimmer powders. I do have a new video showing you how I made my cards. You can CLICK HERE to watch it on YouTube, or you can watch it below.

Note: all supplies are linked in the thumbnails at the end of this blog post.

For both of today’s cards, I used the new Octo Stencil.  I have been wanting to try this technique for awhile, and as soon as I saw the geometric design of this stencil, I knew that it was the one to try it with! You could easily use this stencil as a neutral background by doing a soft ink blend or even a little bit of texture paste. But, I wanted this fun design to be the star of my cards!

I used Lindy’s Gang Magicals for my shimmer powders on these cards. They have so many different colors of powders, so the color combinations are endless. Each powder also has its own magical qualities because they are made up of more than one color. For this first card, I used the following colors: Lizzy’s Cuppa Tea Teal, Have a Scone Heather, and Crumpet Crumbs. To do this technique, you really need Pixie Spray. Be sure to watch the video to see how this technique works!

After the panel was dry and trimmed down, I added a few small finishing elements. The hummingbird is from the Delicate Hummingbird Duo set, and I painted it with the same color Magicals that I used for the panel itself. The sentiments come from the Hi There Greetings stamp set. I heat embossed them with gold embossing powder.

For my second card, I not only used different colors of powders, but I learned a big lesson from the first one. Pixie Spray is great, but I really needed to tape the sides of my stencil down. Because this technique involves water, the paper will naturally try to warp, and so the stencil can end up lifting on the edges. The first panel turned out well, but this second panel had much cleaner and crisper lines.

For this card, I used the following colors of Magicals: Crumpet Crumbs, Dunka Biscuit Blue Green, Lizzy’s Cuppa Tea Teal, and Spill the Tea Teal. I used these same colors to paint the Mushroom Stems. The sentiment is the Small Hello Die, and I cut it from some glitter card stock that is very close in color to the Crumpet Crumbs.

Are you ready to hop along and see inspiration from all of the other designers?

I really enjoyed making these cards and am anxious to dive into my stencil stash to find some more to play with! I hope these cards bring a smile to your face.
